Five Holy Grail Face Masks | Targeted Masks For Each Skin Type

Hi loves, today I’m sharing with you five of the best face mask I could find! There is one mask for each skin type shared below. I thought it would only be right to feature something for everyone in this post.

These masks have been picked, as each contains vital ingredients for each skin type and can help improve upon skin concerns you may experience. Below is an outline of what each skin type consists of and a clear breakdown of each mask.

It is not necessary to pick the mask that is designed for you skin type. Some with oily skin may experience dryness at times and want to combat that, therefore could choose to go with the combination mask, or vice-versa. It is totally up to you which mask you choose to try out, there are no limitations and all benefits are outlined.

Please remember that face masks are not a one-time fix, and in order to see results in the long run, you must keep up with a good routine. I advise doing a face mask at least once a week to keep your skin as healthy as possible.

Oily Skin!

Oily skin occurs because there is an overflow of sebum being produced in the pores. To combat this you must ensure you are giving your skin the right amount of moisture, and also be using products which slow down the production of oil. If you deprive your skin of moisture, you will cause even more sebum to be produced and that is the last thing you want. This mask can help give your skin the right amount of moisture, as well as controlling the oil on skin.

Banana & Honey Face Mask

What you need:

  • 1 fully ripe banana
  • 1 tablespoon raw honey
  •  Lemon juice

Why these ingredients:  

This soothing face mask works best on oily skin, as banana has many amazing benefits for those with oily skin. It contains B vitamins, which combat free radicals, vitamin A which fades acne scars and dark marks, vitamin C helps production of collagen and is great for oil control. Lectin fights off the bacteria which causes acne and amino acids which helps maintain skin elasticity and strength.

Honey is also an amazing ingredient to include. It has anti-bacterial and antiseptic properties, allowing it to combat acne well. Humectants in the honey also help to moisturise skin without being overly hydrated which helps control oil.

Now, lemon juice is added to this recipe as it can help get rid of stubborn blackheads. Lemon also aids in the reduction and lightening of dark marks, so if you have pesky scars this will really help.

How to use:

Mash up the banana as much as possible, then pour in honey. Alternatively, you can blend them in a blender, though it is not necessary. Add in a few drops of juice from a lemon and mix. Apply the mask on your face and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water. Follow with your regular skincare routine.

 

Dry Skin!

With dry skin, the oil that is naturally produced (which gives skin moisture) is being lost or washed off and this makes skin dry out. This may be an indication that your face wash is too harsh for your skin, or you are over washing your skin. The face mask below will aid in providing your skin with the hydration and nourishment it needs, and help prevent dryness if used regularly.

Oatmeal & Yogurt Mask

What you need: 

  • 1/2 tablespoon of yogurt
  • 1/2 tablespoon of oatmeal
  • 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil (optional)

Why these ingredients:

The main star of this mask is oatmeal, it is great as it helps to softly exfoliate the dry areas of the face, without being abrasive. Oats also contain a great amount of protein, giving the skin a new layer which protects, stops the loss of water and maintaining moisture to the skin.

Lactic acid is found naturally in yogurt, this gives soft, supple skin and also tightens pores to ensure moisture is retained in skin. Yogurt is also anti-bacterial and anti-fungal so will kill off any germs on skin.

Olive oil is optional, though it contains antioxidants,vitamin e, vitamin k, phenols, oleocanthal and more. These are all amazing for adding moisture, as well as providing extra protection to the skin.

How to use:

Mix all the ingredients in a small bowl. Apply it on the skin for 10 minutes or until fully dry. Rinse face with lukewarm water. You can leave your skin for around 40 minutes to an hour then apply your skincare routine as normal. This allows all the nutrients to be fully absorbed into skin before applying more products.

 

 Sensitive Skin!

Skin can become sensitive due to several issues. You may have a skin disorder such as eczema, rosacea or contact dermatitis. Another cause of sensitivity in the skin could be due to a over-dryness or injury to the skin, which can lead to loss of the ability to protect ones nerve endings. The environment, genetics, and age can all play a role in your skins sensitiveness too. Whatever is causing your sensitive skin, this face mask can help keep your skin cool and calm if irritations arise.

Vitamin E, Nutmeg & Manuka Honey Mask

What you need:

Why these ingredients:

For this Manuka Honey is advised as there are many benefits from this specific honey, though if you can not get your hands on it normal honey is fine. Though try to go for RAW honey as benefits are lost when products are not in their natural form.

Vitamin E helps to block free radicals and can aid in healing skin problems such as acne, scars of any kind and calming hyper-pigmentation.

Nutmeg has various benefits for skin. Such as anti-aging, gentle exfoliation, aids in the restoration of skin cells, and heals inflammations, as well as acne.

How To Use:

Mix all ingredients together until a thick paste is formed. Apply mixture all over your face, focusing on problematic areas. Leave mixture on for 20-60 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water. You can also lightly massage this mixture in circular motions on your face before rinsing off to promote extra exfoliation. Be extra careful to pat your face dry with a soft towel once washed. Carry on with skincare routine.

 

 

Combination Skin!

Now, combination skin is seen to be the trickiest skin type of all! Some parts of you skin feel great, others are oily and others need hydration so bad. Most masks can’t cope with all these problem areas at once and most only focus on dryness of the skin or on controlling oil production. However, I have found a mask which can balance both with two ingredients which most household will have at hand.

Coconut Oil & Avocado Mask

What you need: 

  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1/2 ripe avocado (found in all food shops)

Why these ingredients

If you know me well, you will know my love for coconut oil. This amazing oil is one of the best ingredients you will come by, and I swear by this! It is packed with fatty acids, that can go well into the skin, providing great amounts of hydration deep into your skin cells. It also has high amount of anti-oxidants, providing anti-ageing properties and helps with acne too.

You may be confused as to why you should put oil on oily skin but coconut oil is special as it doesn’t leave the skin excessively oily. Just remember to wash off the mixture well and the oil will simply moisturise your face.

Again, avocado lubricates the skin cells without causing the skin to become oily which will take care of the dry areas and help control the oiliness in other areas.

How to use

With a fork, mash the half of the ripe avocado until lump-free. Mix in the coconut oil and until the green paste is well formed and there is no excess oil. Apply and massage the mixture onto your face and leave it on for 15 minutes. This will allow the mask to penetrate deeply into the skin delivering essential nutrients to the cells and also unclog pores. Wash off with lukewarm water and proceed with skincare routine.

 

Normal Skin! 

Those with normal skin are blessed! They don’t have too many skin complaints, and do not need extra moisture or oil control. Their skin is usually blemish-free for the most part and do not get acne often, unless suffering health issues. This face mask is packed with goodies to give your skin an extra glow on days where you need a little pick-me-up!

Glowing Matcha Green Tea Mask

What you need

Why these ingredients:

Matcha green tea was chosen as the main ingredient here because of its powerful antioxidant and hydrating properties – green tea also gives your skin a beautiful glow! Green tea is also great for depuffing the under eye so get as close to your under eye area as you possibly can.

P.S. You can use any kind of tea you like (berry, black tea, rose, the sky is the limit here), just make sure you look up the benefits of the ingredients before hand and understand what they can do to the skin.

Agar Agar Powder can be found at your local grocery store (this is going to thicken it and help with the peeling process). PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING POWDER, AGAR AGAR FLAKES DO MAKE THE MASK LUMPY AND DOES NOT ALLOW THE MASK TO SET.

How to use

Bring 1/2 cup of water to the boil in a saucepan and add the tea. Mix, then add the agar agar powder and whisk all together. Take off heat and allow to cool for a minute or two until WARM (don’t cool too much as it won’t set on your face!). Once warm apply to freshly washed face and allow to dry fully. This may take anywhere from 15-30 minutes. Peel off to reveal beautiful, glowing skin! You can now carry on with your skin care routine.
